Squishy Baby

I love this squishy baby face.
Calder is officially a newborn and is acting the part.  He is now nocturnal and fussy at times.  When we were given this outfit it seemed so big I actually laughed.  It is newborn size.  The first hats this little man had were probably 1/3 the size of this hat.  I don't know that I'll ever get over it.

40 Weeks

Calder is no longer a preemie.  He has reached his due date!
He is sitting on his Dad's lap as I type.  He has the hiccups, just got fed and burped and is WIDE AWAKE.  He has been awake more often the last week or so.  It's not so much that he is awake more but that when he is awake he is AWAKE.  He has learned how to scream and we find it funny.  He screams when you change his diaper and when he is hungry.  When Calder was born, Shane's wedding ring could fit over his hand like a bracelet.  Today we can fit two of Calder's fingers in it comfortably and I cannot believe we used to be able to fit his entire hand....this whole process has been unbelievable, stressful, scary and most of all amazing.

We love you Calder Orlando George.

And we are so excited to start to count using positive integers.

My only fear...

Is that he might grow up to be a republican.

Someone asked if I was super scared all the time.  The answer is no.  Although, Shane might argue that I may not let Calder do anything remotely dangerous until he is say 20 or 30, I'm really was not all that scared to bring him home.  The first few nights Shane and I took turns staying up and watching Calder breath while the other person slept.  We would switch off around 3am.  Then we both decided to try to sleep.  The first night we didn't sleep much.  But since then it has been fine.  Calder is a great sleeper so far.  Although, last night he did not want to sleep at all...he was having some intestinal issues and was uncomfortable, poor little man.

Calder had a great homecoming.  He wore prison stripes as his coming home outfit.

The transition to home has been a lot easier than we thought it would be.  It helps that we both aren't working right now...although, Shane would have taken a few weeks off if Calder had been born during the school year, not having to make lesson plans, etc. is nice.   The first thing we did when we got home last Wednesday was go for a "hike."  Granted, the "hike" was only a mile long and was in the neighborhood behind our house...but, oh, man was it good to not be sitting in the NICU and eating cafeteria food (a huge thank you to everyone who brought us food at some point in the hospital).  Although, we do miss a lot of the nurses that we became friends with.

I have a lot more to get recorded in this blog.  First time rolling over, T holding sans surgery mask, first car ride, first time on a ferry, T's art camp...

And, no offense to any republicans out there.

Another Day Another Dollar

Same old, Same old.

Calder continues to do well.  He is gaining weight like a trooper.  He has a "model growth chart".

We miss him.  A lot.

If everything goes well Thursday will be the day.  But, we're not counting on anything.
