5th Grade!
Officially a 5th grader! Letting off a little steam after school playing catch....because, you know, 5th grade is so stressful!

Kittens and Corona
Summer flew by...
Some recent highlights:
We got a new kitten. Which we promptly named, Spike. Because, at least one of our animals needed to have a tough name. She is the funniest kitten. She plays and plays and reminds me of our niece, Madalin. She just goes and goes.
As the upcoming school year approached (much too quickly) the only way I could face it was one corona at a time. Our recycling bin is full. Really full. Too full, probably.
Camping this weekend at Rainier or Wish Poosh (Cascades). Traditionally we go to Rainier (read: get rained and rained on and freeze to death). This year, we hope to go to Wish Poosh, but it all depends on if we can get a camping spot.
My Mom came to visit and we canned peaches. Lots of peaches. She brought 3 big boxes with her. Shane keeps wanting to eat the canned peaches and I keep having to stop him because we still have FRESH peaches! He said he likes the canned peaches better as I stared blankly at him.
Tayler met her 5th grade teacher. New school this year. We spent a good part of a day walking around the new school and practicing walking to class, the bus, etc. She's excited and we are excited because the new school is a few minutes closer to our house.
Shane bought me a Gorilla Tri-pod for my birthday. So, now I can take pictures with me in them. This is exciting for many reasons the first of which is that now there will be some actual documentation that I actually existed in this family. I'm sure our decendents will be just thrilled to have pictures with all three of us.
Off to another meeting.

3 Years
We have been married 3 years (yesterday).
It has gone by quickly! We have done a lot of "stuff" in three years. None of which seems worth mentioning at the moment. I will say that I have lived in 4 counties since we have been married (King, Pierce, Snohomish, Kitsap). Shane and Tayler have lived in 3 counties. I moved from my house in Seattle to Shane's house in Milton when we got married so I count that. We are tired of moving! And so glad to have a fun house stay in for a while.
Tayler is getting so grown up! When we look at wedding pictures she still has chubby cheeks. But now, the fluff is gone! I miss those chubby cheeks!
One of the things I am most proud of in life is that when T talks about our wedding she always uses the possessive. For example, "our wedding, when we got married." I'm so glad Shane and I were able to establish that the wedding was about ALL THREE of us! We get her an anniversary gift every year and she is always so serious when she is thinking about what she wants to get her Dad for "our" anniversary! This year she made me a very fancy necklace and pair of earrings. They are very colorful and will go with everything. I'm going to miss when T grows out of the jewelery making phase too! T! Stop Growing! Put a brick on your head! But at the same time I love all the new things she is starting to like and learn. So, maybe take the brick off...but someday when you are 30 I'm going to make you sit down and make plastic jewelery and listen to Harry Potter CD's with me so be prepared!
Our tradition is to go out for Mexican for our Anniversary...Here we are at the restaurant.

Grandma Karene bought T a cute new dress and it sort of matched mined so we had a photo shoot.

I've been bitten by a bug...
The Twilight Bug:
Because nothing says summer like some good young-adult fiction. And when I read. I READ. Like 4 books in 5 days reading.
Shane is a good man and puts up with my reading. For a while I think he took offense to my reading like I didn't want to hang out with him or something...but now he knows it is just a weird obsession. The books PULL ME IN. And DON'T LET GO. And let me just say, that 4th book: You think you know what's going to happen and then BAM. You get sucker punched right out of left field with surprise after surprise.
And, apparently, this is the post in which I use analogies that make no sense. "Sucker punched out of left field" what?
And if you've read all the books you will understand that I am obsessed with finding a little stone cottage in the wood with flowers and a small pond in the back and a built in bookcase. Because, that sounds like such a peaceful place to be.
Now I must end my Twilight obsession and rejoin the world in which I actually do things like make dinner instead of throwing veggie dogs on the grill and the laundry and talking to my husband and kid (a-hem) . Thank you and Goodnight Twilight books-you have been a most enjoyable summer vice.

Wow.
We had a great time in Yellowstone. I wish we could have stayed a week to do all the non-touristy stuff. We saw a ton of animals! We even saw a GRIZZLY BEAR! Very cool. Tayler liked the Buffalo the best. I liked the grizzly and I'm not sure what Shane liked.

We made it!
It took 8.5 hours (not to mention the 5 hours from Seattle that it took to get to Spokane) but we finally made it to Idaho Falls. It is really beautiful weather here. When we arrived it was in the 80's and in just a few hours a HUGE thunder storm rolled in. The storm lasted about 30 minutes and in another 20 minutes it was 80 degrees and sunny again. I love thunder storms so it was a pretty great arrival.
We made a list of everything we want to do while we are here:
- See a buffalo
- See a grizzly bear
- Yellowstone
- Go to the Idaho Falls Zoo
- Idaho Falls Museum (there is supposed to be a Space exhibit)
- Swim every day
- Read Harry Potter
- Read Harry Potter in the sun and then jump in the pool.
- Fitness Center
- See a waterfall (we saw one today and changed this to...)
- See a tall waterfall
- Huckleberry Milkshake Tour (oh, yes, that is a real thing)
- Find cowboy hats
- Walk/run on the river trail
- Sit on a bench by the river trail and read (Harry Potter)
- Go to the outdoor pool in Pocatello (we'll see as that is a 50 minute drive)
- Eat lunch outside w/ a cold beer (or other non-alcoholic special drink)
I think that about covers it!

Summer...
Summer took a while to get started this year. For a variety of reasons. First, I had to work one week longer than Shane and T. Then I promptly got sick, really sick, for the entire first week of summer. So, now that we've finally gotten into summer...we haven't done much! But, we are headed to Idaho Falls next week and we will visit Yellowstone and, hopefully, we'll have some summer fun. I leave tomorrow for a pit stop in Spokane to see Baby Boy Hammond and help my Mom with plans for Grandpa George's memorial service. One of my best friends from high school had a 3rd of July baby and I am so excited to meet him! Look out, Brayden---here comes your pseudo-Auntie!!
I did make T a dress to wear to Grandpa George's memorial service....It went pretty well. There are a few things I would change and I learned a lot.

I like how the pocket turned out but mainly I just like the fabric...
We went camping over Memorial Day weekend (before I was finished with school). It was beautiful. The clouds rolling over the Mountain, in this picture, took my breath away.
More fishing. Still Zero Fish.
